Tony480 how do you like this rigging?
We all agree that Anvil's new Don Davis is a death trap that's why I'm willing to trade him this fine example of Dade County home engineering. Let me know when your ready to ride with the best anvil.

Wow I love the grass rake. Just take the gutters off your house and weld them on the front of your boat. Great idea.

Some of use like to build boats from the ground up. Back when this one and the one I have was built we couldn't just go to the airboat store and buy it,.so let's not be to hard on these guys who did with what they had. The trails most all of us ride in the glades was made with boats like this!!!!!!!

hell add some shingle and the kitchen sink you got yourself a house boat, awnings, chain link fencing etc. that's a pretty good deal considering what homes go for these days.Birddog247 wrote:And i thought i built my boat on a budget!

Ever notice, the ones who can't build a boat from scratch are sometimes the first to find fault with others.

The ones who can, just get overlooked or shouted down.

Re: Tony480 how do you like this rigging?
It.may not be great but if the man built it with his two hands he should be proud its not my taste but some people can't afford a custom built boat and don't have the skill to build a show boat but it gets him to and from
Re: Tony480 how do you like this rigging?
Amen Bubba , I won't think of riding a topless half cage today. Equipped with a wood prop balanced on a bubble tire balancer with solder.Bubba wrote:Amen. I would be willing to bet that if you were broke down somewhere, that thing coming across the marsh would be a beauty.

Re: Tony480 how do you like this rigging?
I give the builder much credit. I would have used plastic zipties on the chain link instead of the wire ties, which shows you how much I know. The ONLY thing that I'm wondering about is that tarp. Is there really a need for protecting this thing from weather, or is it to hide it from the neighbors?

Re: Tony480 how do you like this rigging?
There wasn't any airboat shops all are parts came from elec. shops, hardware store no Home Depot back then and what ever you could fine. I for one would have love to shop the airboat depots of today.but look at fun we would have missed. Look at the model A and the 2013 F350 it all starts with a man and his hands !!!!!!!!

DDSBC I wish I would've had these photos to go by when I built anvils. Maybe I wouldn't have to worry everyday of him hurting himself on that death trap I threw together. Lmao

Re: Tony480 how do you like this rigging?
That is repurposing at it's finest, a cage and seat stand from a grass/hunt boat, extend hoops back to cover the prop and to hang the rudders from, then practicing tube bending and welding to make the front work, then the grass rake skin. Yep Ratrod airboat if I ever saw one, connecting rod for a gas pedal I bet!
But as stated above, the guy or guys that threw this thing together, had just as much fun as anyone I bet!
