Considering GO-480

Were should I look for one and were can I find parts? I know that is easier to type then do. I have looked at all the options and not many people who own these dis like them. So I figured I might try this route.

Thanks Gary. I like this motor so much it's definitely crossed my mind to sell my GSO boat and keep this one but I'd lose way too much money on my big boat for it to be feasable. This boat burns almost half the fuel of my big boat. I put your adjustable pushrods in it and it sure is quiet and smooth. With the prop technology today I know these motors can be the next big thing. Swing a huge prop and burn as much or less fuel than a 540. It's been proven and this is a high compression motor to boot. 8.7/1 Ross pistons. So far burns 4-4.5gal per hour and averages 4mpg

Eric what kind on HP & Torque numbers do you think the motor is putting out? What's the gearbox ratio? Dam good looking motor bro!!

My GSO burns 6-8gal per hr and averages 2.25-2.5 mi per gallon with the R. Used to get better with the Saber. About 1gph better across the board

Thanks man it's worth all the hard work I put in it to see it pull the numbers that I was shooting for. It is 300hp and ratio is a 77:120 which comes out to roughly 1.56 rounded up. Same as all geared lycoming aircraft.

Tony the best I've gotten was 5 gallons per hour even. That was riding by myself in Kissimmee... With the wife & kid and loaded with stuff I'm pretty much 7-7 1/2 gallons per hour. Still not bad for a gas guzzler motor..My boat having a wider bottom than Eric's seems to help a little. I will say when I first got this boat I was 10-12 per hour before we made some adjustments. We have talked to others at Kissimmee that said they burn 15 per hour with a gso.

Depends entirely on set up. The last GSO480 I tuned (Southernrican) was a step hull and he would burn 10gal less in a day than us on the bigger boats.

I'm fine with my old supercharged dinosaur motor. It gets me from point A to point B so I'm happy. Burning more fuel than others don't bother me at all...

I'll have to check hours to gallons. But I know the last time we rode we went 71 miles on 16 gallons and that was a mix of dry and water running. 3 people in the boat with all our stuff. Memorial weekend we rode and made all the usual stops from polluted waters all the way to cypress and back to camp mack and only burnt 10 gallons eachday

I'd be willing to bet there isn't anyone else with a 480 getting those fuel numbers he is.id really like to see his boat with slick bottom and a longer prop. I bet it would be better then.

20-25 gallons in my 540. My 540 burnt about 6 gallons an hour.

I had no problems with my GSO once eric tuned it. It was on a fiberglass decked over step with slick bottom and I would cruise at a lot lower rpm then the larger boats and have a faster crusing speed but once eric.dialed her in I was burning 4-5 gallons per tach hour and that's including the occasional flooring it and feeling that whip lash for that instant chubby lol

what RPM's are you turning with the motor & what is the prop turning? for both GSO & GO??

My gso was turning 3850 on trailer around 3900 on water. So the prop was seeing about 2500 or so.
