Python hunt

I heard on the news the python hunt starts tomarrow in Frances Taylor and North of the alley, any body going ?
Can't find any info on it !!!

I believe it's the third one down that is a python head - click on that and it will
tell you everything you need to know.
If you have trouble, let me know and i'll post all the info.
The kickoff is tomorrow and the challenge runs until February 10th.

You have to register and there are maps showing where you can and cannot hunt.

I'll go out in the mornimg but don't think much of it, seems like most of the snakes are on the south side of the Tamiami Trail (NPS) !

You called it right Pierce44, most of them snakes are south of the Trail. Some might argue that, based on collected info from conservation area studies but, there are 10 fold "hunters" in the WCA's than in NPS territory...
There needs to be a continued bounty on them suckers, I would say atleast the cost of a box of ammo for each snake that's verified

If they opened the hunt area to southern glades and the aero jet area then they would actually have people workin areas where they are pretty thick...aka dry ground!!

For every one killed a thousand are hatched out and south of the trail is NPS, no firearms and im not lookin for any snakes without my pistol. Very few are up North in deep water, just wait til they start showing up in town in peoples back yards where the little kids are playing !!!

NEED SOME ADVICE. I was kicking around the idea of coming down in the morning for the hunt. It would be a little over a 4 hour drive for me and I've never been riding in the everglades. I was wondering if its worth the trip (as far as seeing some snakes) and if it is, where would you guys recommend staying Saturday night? Also, out of the 4, which WMA and boat ramp would you suggest?

If you're not familiar with the area, you will probably be wasting your time. What they are not saying is that most pythons are being caught up on the levees lying in the sun. you won't see them zipping along on an airboat. Most of the levees are locked and vehicle access is prohibited. The only way would be to bring a mountain bike and cruise down the levees. Most of all the pythons that have been killed are found by SFWMD employees since they are on the levees all the time. As already said, only state licensed trappers will be allowed in the Park to hunt pythons. They have been doing this for a while, with minimal results. I believe there are only 30 trappers licensed to be in the Park.
The other thing that is not being said is that hunters in the Cypress have been killing these snakes for a while, but because of all the rules and info they want, they don't report it. And God forbid if you kill the snake in what is considered an inhumane way.
Just thought I would throw that info out there. If you can hook up with someone who is knowledgeable with the area, that would be the way to go.

None, if for snakes. As it's been said, ain't no snakes in the water, the GFC is useing airboaters to 'Scout". If you wan't to see the glades, then you can stay at Old Glory for the nite. 7 miles n/w of Hwy 27 & Alligator Ally as my guest.

You are rite on Fulltrack, this is a houghx (how do you spell that word?) But then, most airboaters are looking for a reason to get out of the house anyway. Like the GFC, we can tell our wives that we are trying to save the everglades.

U.S. Senator Bill Nelson will take a machete on board FWC Commissioner Ron Bergeron's airboat
on Thursday to "whack some pythons."

SENATOR TO KILL GIANT SNAKES WITH JUST A MACHETE: U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson has already gone up in space. Now he's going into the Everglades with just a machete and his bare hands to kill as many pythons as he can find. Nelson, 70, will take part in the first giant python hunt, meant to rid the Everglades of some of the nuisance snakes that have thrived there as the descendants of people's turned-loose pets. Nelson, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commissioner Ron Bergeron and others will have a short media availability on Alligator Alley before heading out in an airboat to whack some snakes. (Thursday, 10 a.m., Mile Marker 41, Alligator Alley.)

Sounds like the staged catch at Duck in 3A on the Nat Geo tv show some time back. Witnesses saw the "pros" come off their boat with a "lumpy pillow case", then, in no time, they've "caught" a python behind the generator shed.
