Thrust testing for Sensenich today!
Get ready folks the guys at Sensenich have came up with a new blade profile its making more thrust with less surface area. Going to be a game changer. We tested 3 different blades back to back to back with the same air temp, humidity and corrected altitude the proto type blade made more thrust in a 3 blade configuration than the 4 blade R did. This going to be a game changer can't wait to get my hands on one for my boat I love doing more with less its all a game of efficiency. Will post some pics in a bit.

That's awesome news, love how my 4 blade R pushes, but miss how quick the motor would spin with the 3 blade set up. Maybe some R props going up for sale soon. Get those pics up.

How was the noise comparison to the 4 blade R. That gonna be a game changer as well??? Quite is the new thing hopefully !!!!

Hey armedic, how's that 427 running? I was talking to Dave the other day about it. I might go that route in a year or two.
Re: Thrust testing for Sensenich today!
It's running great, no issues. I had to pitch the 3 blade R to 3.5 , so I went to the 4 blade R and have it pitched near the 3 mark, turning 5150 on the water. Cruising around 3200 / 3300 rpm. It's the way to go with a heavier boat.

Dave, where's the pics? There's more than me interested in this for sure. Did you try a 4 blade in the proto type? If I can spin a 4 blade R now, it'd be interesting to see if a proto 4 would push like a 5 blade . You got my wheels spinning.

Sensenich is about as fine a company as there is. I've dealt with them on repairs twice and they were a testament to good business practices both times. Not to mention their props are top shelf to begin with.
Just had to toss that out there.

Re: Thrust testing for Sensenich today!
All I can and will say is we logged more thrust with the new 3 blade profile at the exact same RPM's than the 4 blade R. All thrust comparisons were done with all props having a max of 5,500RPM's. We logged and measured thrust from idle to 5,500RPM's. We have a true thrust graph that logs thrust in pounds every 100RPM's over time. No doubt the new 3 blade produces more thrust than the 4 blade R. So the obvious benefits are
1 the new blade is more efficient and produces more thrust with less wing AKA surface area
2 the new blade will also have substantially more top end because it uses less wing AKA surface area. We all know generally a 4 blade prop runs 7 to 9 MPH less top end speed than a 3 blade when utilizing the same blade.
3 greater fuel economy because you are creating more thrust at less RPM's and the profile is obviously more efficient and requires less surface area to produce the same thrust as a 4 blade.

Dave,
It sure looks like it could be labelled NGS and it's about time! Love my old S's, Really love my NGR's, Just repitched my sabers and dam that boat moves at breaking my eardrums? Can I get two shorties PLZ for a little 150?

Re: Thrust testing for Sensenich today!
It'd be very interesting to know the pitch of both during the test. I know for me to spin my 4 blade R at 5500, it'd have to be around or just under 2.5 mark. When I had the 3 blade I was around 3.5 and was turning 5400. When I spoke with Don he said you get to a point called parasitic drag after so much pitch. I'd be all in with a blade that has less surface and more push. Thanks for the info, you know Don could send me one and I'll test it on a good ole heavy saltwater boat.

Re: Thrust testing for Sensenich today!
The motor we tested it on turns a 83'' 4 blade R on the 3.25 mark 5,400RPM's and uses a 2.68 ratio box. The real interesting part is the proto 3 blade and 4 blade NGR had the same pitch to stall at 5,500 so that gives you a idea how much more efficient the new blade is. It uses less area than a 4 blade but the same pitch and produces more thrust.

Re: Thrust testing for Sensenich today!
Will you or Sensenich be publishing the thrust graph/table? I understand the advantage of getting same or more thrust with less surface area but how much more is 'more'? And, while your statement could be interpreted to mean the extra thrust is available at cruise, does the new design 3 blade out-perform the 4-blade across the entire RPM range? Do you plan to run thrust tests at different gearbox ratios to see if the trend holds at higher prop RPM/less pitch? Just curious. It would help for those of us that are still running 2.38 or 2.5 gearboxes. I know I'm over-propped so this is something I'm very interested in.

Re: Thrust testing for Sensenich today!
Nope B Driller we actually do testing nothing I posted was based on opinion or sales. It's not like when somebody hears something they dont like and deny's it without even knowing or doing any research. We actually tested several props and documented all the results across the entire thrust curve at 100 RPM intervals. I stated facts you can interpret it however you like. Facts are the Sensenich proto 3 blade made more thrust than their 4 blade R did at the exact same RPM's. THIS IS A PROVEN FACT! All the people with one of our 550HP to 650HP motors that dont want to run a 4 blade or want more top end MPH or what better fuel economy this blade will give you that. It sounds nastier too ( the sound part is a opinion) everything else stated is a fact!

Now water thunders test are good its not i tried this prop on this boat deal. I wish there was a complete product test result chart. Then we could all see what is actually best. I would like to see all prop done.

Re: Thrust testing for Sensenich today!
water thunder did you overlay the fuel and thrust curves for both props every hundred RPM's, that is the true measure of efficiency. If your burning more fuel at the same RPM to get more thrust your not always more efficient.

Re: Thrust testing for Sensenich today!
I imagine gains would be had on two blade configurations as well? Be interesting to see what my boat would do with these. Went from k's to ngr's a while back and couldn't believe the difference.
