Airboat #2

Post by Hog Guts » Tue Jan 13, 2015 9:31 pm

I'm way behind most of you I started late, if I would have ridden on an airboat when I was a kid I would have owned one most of my life. Oh well better late than never... What an incredible machine good fun. So any way I blew my motor up on the first one I bought last December the first week of this December.... Time for the motor I knew I should have.... 540 SV so I bought one p.vento had after he took me for a ride (it was in his boat) . Great thanks to Pete he is a super guy with amazing talent what he's doing up there I'm mins with his Mamba hulls is impressive. Here it is coming homeImage

So then I really Id t want to hack up my existing rigging to accommodate the new mounting type from gpu to the 540 mounts so I decided to redo the rigging. I also decided to build it myself - shouldn't take too long and save some money and learn how to use my new welder - great first metal project skip making a welding table jump right into a real project lol. So I ordered the metal from sunshine welding Matt knew just what I needed and ordered it up - thanks Matt I appreciate your assistance in getting me headed in the right direction with the right material. What I started with...Image

So now I'm thinking... New motor, new custom rigging.... Heck a new hull it will be all new boat and I'll have a hull and rigging to sell so it won't be too bad.... So I decide to get a mamba 13' from Pete and start looking at colors like silver and black, maybe some dark green.... Then I'm offered a deal I couldn't resist and it's everything I didn't want lol. Red boat, lots of red. 11'6" and its a diamondback: polymer, grass rake, walk boards and it's already built sitting on the ground ready to go saved me about 3 weeks. Thanks Tommy from DB I appreciate you taking the time to deal with me picking up all the gauges, switches, the hull and all the other parts I needed. Here it is...Image

Looks like my hull...only painted up.

470 does good on mine and I'd say your new 540's gonna do better...congratulations on the new build.

Wow I have a whole new respect for the guys that do this. A friend helped all along the way... Scott young helped he was my welding and metal mentor week after week I know who I'm gonna have to call every time I go gigging I owe him lots - thanks Scott! Thanks too wade at Hamant for making the gas tank I needed to fit in the rigging, and the rudders, and the NGQ prop, and the other stuff. I have a little bit fro everywhere on this thing if I spent all my time bugging just one person they would have shot me :)

Just make me some nice comfy seats cause I plan on using them this weekend :). I know he will do a great job all his work is nice.
