Airboat songs

Post by blackpowderscout » Fri Oct 21, 2005 6:27 pm

Have any of you heard the music of Jerry C. Renney, Jr. ? Big daddy gave me a cd of his music today and it is awesome!! He's the guy that was gonna sing at the milk bus run but I lost track of him.

The CD is called "Sideways As Always" and has 4 songs. If you like the history of airboating especially Central Florida around Kissimmee and Gardner Marsh then try to get your hands on this one. It is sort of a folk-country mix...good campfire music.

Get with Big Daddy about where to find a copy...he wouldn't disclose all his secrets but he know how to get them I guess.

Big Daddy, I want one of those CD's. Jim and Allen and I were just talking last night about needing a country music video done by (preferably Alan Jackson) featuring airboats. Something like "way down yonder on the Chatahoochee, Florida marsh style!

Will definately put us in more good graces, maybe I could ride along with him during the filming....hehehe

John Anderson is from Apopka, y'all and the video for "Seminole Wind" shows Big John runnin' a deckover boat, with a couple of other boats, in the Glades. It's a Great video!

Jerry is a tremendous talent. He was Pres. of KRVSA during the Battle for Gardner Marsh. He wrote the songs that tell the story of that epic struggle which every airboater who runs the great Kissimmee benefits from. Jerry names names in his songs, his words speak truth.

He, like many of us, has his obvious flaws and is not perfect. One of his songs, "Sidewinder" I think, states - "whiskey bottle in one hand and shotgun in the other - I thought they were my brothers......"

He is the Ghost of Gardner Marsh. Where he comes from and where he returns to is largely unknown. His boat and engine are classics, plenty of patches and repairs and definitely Old School. He's likely one who will never muffle. He knows that marsh in the pitch dark better than most others do in broad daylight.

Many among us were labeled outlaws and plenty were arrested for just being at places like the Catfish Pond. Others have patches over bullet holes in their hulls put there just for crossing the road where Stan blew up. Running dry was not a bragging point then, it was an absolute necessity if you wanted to avoid being falsely charged by Osceola County, arrested, losing your boat and jailed just for running public property.

Jerry shies away from crowds and does not seek an audience. Last year at River Ranch Airboating For Answers, he showed up very late, boat in tow, after most had retired and sang his songs for a lucky few. We were entertained by his haunting ballads that implant into the memory...

His CDs are available from KRVSA with all proceeds going towards the continuing fight for airboating rights. Blackpowderscout was given one because he is such an outstanding young leader.
