For what it's worth, I'd go with the NGQ as well.

I like my 72 NGQ and I'm not talking about one I haven't spent $2222 on either. It's nice. I haven't tried the others. Get with terry or one of the guys that sells them I'm sure they have demos of both you can actually try out that's what I did... If you can try before you buy you won't have to worry about your choice or how it might behave. Go find out.

 No, not yet, but I'm sold on the idea of winglets on airfoils. Hartzel proved it first, Sensenich proved it to me with my NGR. Obviously, aeronautic engineers have proven it to the airlines; hardly a wing in the fleet doesn't utilize a winglet. The lost drag means more power to turn the prop.

The Coast Guard has that style on their rotors as well. Had a long discussion with one of them one time. Pretty cool how it works.

The NGQ benefits the user as a result of the Coanda effect, just look at the Airforce C17 Galaxy it uses winglets also.

The Coanda effect is the tendency of a fluid to follow a curved surface. In aeronautics, it is utilized to increase lift by placing jet engines above the wing, thus increasing the velocity of the flow of air over the curved surface of the airfoil and, by extension, increasing lift. Winglets decrease drag by partially blocking the flow of higher pressure air under an airfoil to the lower pressure area above the airfoil, which decreases the creation of wingtip vortices and, thus, decreases drag. You have to remember that a propeller blade is an airfoil. Not only is it an airfoil, but it is an airfoil travelling at tremendous speed, especially at the tip. Any reduction in wingtip vortices will translate into significant reduction in drag. Thus, less drag, more power available to turn the prop. As Thomas Dolby would say; "Science!!"

There is more evidence that winglets, whether on a prop blade or a wing, work. There are exceptions to every rule and all your article does is focus on the exceptions. To its credit, it acknowledges the pros but attempts any way possible to downplay them. I think the comments following the article speak volumes.

I noticed the blow by out of my blow by tube when I had my Q the smoke would flow out the side of the cage. I noticed the winglets are pulling the smoke in towards the Hub. I think the Winglets are gathering more Air and pulling it in.

  I'm glad to see that I am not the only one that sees the winglets as just a marketing fad. Some people would buy into a prop with holes drilled in it if they were TOLD it was better....lol
Hell, I even bought one at one time. Run it for awhile.Tore the winglets up, cut them off with a portaband and could tell absolutely NO difference... :dontknow:
