Re: New/Old Airboat Hull
Going with (2) singles/front driver and keep it light as possible. Not race boat light; just don't want to add any unnecessary weight. Ain't sure about the cage yet. Probably a full one. Pancakes make me a little nervous under trees. I've never witnessed anything to backup that nervousness though. A...

Re: New/Old Airboat Hull
Yobee, I appreciate the offer, but I'm already setup to get some rigging in the next week or two. Gonna take it to a cousin's shop and work on it there.
Pretty confident I'm not gonna get suckered.

Re: 540 Headers...
Slidin Gator, I keep going back the "If you like to hear the engine, those are the ones" part of your post. I'm getting to be somewhat of an older guy (probably 4th quarter or so lol) and I think what you said set my mind to quit thinking about the no flex pipe option. I'm good with the pr...

Re: 540 Headers...
Those pistons are 9:1 in the h2ad o-320. Not sure if that figure changes in the 540 cylinder or not. The only other thing different that I was told is that the motor was built from a turbo or supercharged motor (can't remember which) and should have a little better crank. I'm no expert so correct me...

Re: 540 Headers...
That's a badass header thread kwan... I searched and didn't come up with that one. I believe if Chuck (RIP) was still alive, I be giving him a call to talk headers.
Possible 20-25 hp gain by spending more on headers on a light boat turns my head and makes me want to do a little more studying.

540 Headers...
Just curious about header tubing size. The used 540 I bought for the old boat that I'm re-doing only has 1 3/4" diameter tubing for headers. Is that biggest enough? If not, I'm gonna change headers and was thinking about those Norman Clay headers with the muffler welded on. Any opinions on that...

Re: New/Old Airboat Hull
Picked up my new trailer from Smuggler and Witchy ( AirboatStuff.com ) yesterday. All aluminum, including the tongue, all stainless hardware, aluminum wheels, spare tire with a spare hub, straps mounted to back of trailer, and some really nice rollers on the back. Excellent workmanship. Nicest trail...

I apologize for the downtime. The SA server had a major crash and it has taken the web host this long to get it back up & running. Been sittin here like a lame duck not being able to a damn thing. The so called backups that this host uses as a selling feature were of no use to me since it was ab...

That formula is +/-By the Rick formula we are 36 beers in.

Good thread as usual Slidin Gator.
Never had a Stossel, but have been around a few...they are top notch imo. Seen'em run the St. Johns switch grass better than most on our end of the river.

Re: Lycoming Spin on Filter Swap, Champion CH48110-1, Napa 1515
Dang, that's bummer about the frogs. I guess the $28 for the oil filter does seem a little out of line at this point lol. Main reason was that the 540 had a filter adapter, but no filter. It was taped off so I bought a $9.00 Wix to cover the hole a little better and looking for a reason to leave it ...

Re: New/Old Airboat Hull
Thanks Proto. Ain't gonna be a race boat, but definitely gonna be an avgas motor IMO. I'm thinking stainless rigging w/single front & single back. I'm no racer, but I want it as lite as possible. On another note...does anybody know how much beer it takes for an airboat build like this :) ? I ain...
