Re: Home made cracklings
Appreciate the links. I checked 'em out. I am looking for someone's home made proven cajun crackling recipe like you get at all the little butcher shops where they use a "black kettle" to make 'em. I figured maybe a true cajun would chime in and point me in the right direction.... No offen...

Home made cracklings
Anyone want to share a recipe for making cracklings.
They don't make 'em here in Alaska.
Currently have some coming from Charlie T's but I want to make my own. Shipping kills us to get anything up here.
I make my own Boudin, but I want some cracklings!!

Made a pizza fattie a few weeks ago on the grill, less the bacon overwrap.
Awesome.
Now I need to make breakfast fattie.

Re: 350 Chevy
Either a reduction, belt driven or gear would work.
You could also change cams and install a dual plane intake to match your RPM range.
Adjusting or replacing your prop might make a difference.
My thoughts...

Re: rifles on airboat
Fortunately for us in Alaska, there is nothing wrong with carrying a gun on the boat or truck, regardless of time of day or season. In fact, hunting is allowed 24/7 as long as you are not using an artificial light to shoot with. Meaning, if you can see the moose at midnight due to a full moon during...

Skip has her down to the block this morning for an inspection at the machine shop. New bearings, oil pump, etc... will be installed.

Re: Timing chain broke?
Unfortunately, this has happened twice to me in the last year. My first airboat, bought it a year ago, blew up on the test drive. I was convinced it was something small, ended up buying it anyway. It had a bad valve, took out the piston, and many other components. All said it was a $5000- rebuild an...

Re: Timing chain broke?
Here's the scoop on the airboat; Drove her up to Skip's house on Sat. in Fairbanks. In about 30 mins his "team" had an evaluation. Seems the previous owner installed a set of roller rockers and a cam. Unfortunately for me, two of the roller rocker lock down nuts were not locked down. These...

Re: Timing chain broke?
The local mechanic has declined to work on it. So, I will drag it back to Fairbanks to Skip Olsen and see what come of it.
More to come in the next week or so....

PS-Yeah, the dog was pretty happy!!

Re: Timing chain broke?
I can only hope it was the pin on the distributor shaft and it's an easy fix....but I'll know more when the mechanic looks into it on friday. I'll keep you guys posted. Due to the noises I got turning it over and the hesitation initially requiring dual batteries to turn it over, I am still inclined ...

Timing chain broke?
Recently bought a 20' airboat off a guy in Vancouver, Canada. Alumatech hull built by a well known Alaskan airboater. It's a 502 BBC crate motor with roller rockers installed. 4 Master blaster props w/a 2.68 Stinger gear reduction on it. Poly bottom on her too. I had it shipped up to Alaska on good ...

Just bought this boat with a nice cab on it. Shipping it up to AK on the 8th of April.
Should be a great moose/bear hunting machine.

Tess, thanks for sharing this recipe...it's GOOD STUFF!
Quick and easy too, (and I like quick and easy!!)
Been adding some bacon and/or sausage meat crumbled on top with generous amounts of cheese.

Been using this site for a while, however the outdoor forum for Alaska is starting to gain momentum. It's nice to see some local guys and info on this one too. An Alaskan section would be good!

Re: What GPS device do you use on your boat ?
Garmin 76CS. Handheld. Works great all over Alaska. Just download the maps and when you get home you can upload your trip into the computer and keep files.
