Re: Airboat Lighting

Everyone is right --- Get a good 12v hand held spot light .. I mounted ours on a piece of PVC pipe and put a short stub on the console to hold it up so I do not have to hang on to it all the time .. Ya some of the light reflects back off the hull but you can see all of the junk you don't want to hit...

Re: How to balance a prop?

Norris balancing a 3 or 4 blade carbon fiber prop is time consuming but gratifying if you succeed ... I do ours and with a balance scale ( the old type that you move the weights on ) then I use a gun power scale to in grams to know the differences in each blade ... the total weight is important beca...

Re: Stringer Separation

Good advice --- When you get everything ground down so that all the cracked glass is gone and feathered back away from the old bad spots then drill a hole at the end of any cracks you find -- the hole has to be bigger than the crack and large enough so resin will fill it... this will stop the crack ...

Re: Prop Question

Thanks everyone --- We have always had a low rpm vibration 700 to 900rpm... every 100hrs or so I have to take the prop off and replace it... we bowfish so low rpm is our run time and vibration scares the fish.. at 1000rpm the prop is smooth as can be.. I will let you know what happens.

Prop Question

We have a 82" Powershift Maximus 3 blade with 540 hours on it -- what would this be worth as we are thinking of upgrading to a new quieter prop.

Worthey welcom to aiirboating ... I do not know ware you are from but most states require Mufflers on all boats... We have found that a 1 to 2 foot piece of flex works the best for us then the rest is solid pipe.. Flex has always burned out in the bends first on our airboats so we keep ours a strigh...

Yes that is a Snow Sled they were first built in the early 1900ds to cross over frozen lakes and rivers to transport goods and people... And yes they found out that the sled did NOT float if it broke through the ice.. And the wooden hulls they tried did not hold up to the ice .. They were short live...

John Boats with air drive have been used for bowfishing here in Mi. since the early 70ts... The first thing you want to do is check the MAX Payload tag in the hull --- This is everything put into the hull.. (( Yes this includes the Beer )) The corvair engine was the best -- But as said earlier deep ...

Have you checked the bottom of your hull to see if there are any Dents or polymer coming loose ??? Have someone watching the hull sides and bottom when you run to see if it is flexing more in one spot than it is in the rest of the hull.. If you have broken welds that fit tight when the boat is setti...

I was there and saw the Aircat & the Hovercraft -- I was with the PBR groupe .. That was before my days of airboating and what I saw made me glad I was with the PBR'S at that time .. PBR = Patrol boat river ; 31' chris craft ; twin 671 diesels and ? 10 or 12 " jet drives = 31knots and it would do a ...

Re: Looks like the sound issue has faded into the backround.

Olf the reason for the 4" is that we now have a 540 stroker with 600hp and when we had the 3" we ended up burning the outer sides of the heads. so now it is 4" with a crossover to keep both sides equal in presser... The thing that surprised me was that the pipe going from the headers to the muffler ...

Re: Looks like the sound issue has faded into the backround.

The 90 degree sweep exhaust elbows do work .. The thing I have found is to point them as much as possible toward each other and down just enough to clear the transom gussets; and so the water can run out.. We put them back on our 4" exhaust this summer and what a huge difference it made -- I could o...

in 2004 we worked to help establish the first Mi. Law pertaining to Airboats... It had a Sunset portion added to it meaning that it would be a trial law for 3 years.. Last year when it was time for the sunset portion to be dropped and SB1278 enacted as the law we had a bad time going in the the poli...
