Re: Rotator gearbox?
Our local speed shops stock redline shock proof and I thought it worked great! Box did eventually break however narrow gear and BBC stroker and a prop strike Or two might have had more to do with it. Don't know all the details! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=M8dQZyr74qM

Thought of doing something like that with the efi intake, would have saved me $200

Re: cam for 4.3
I know not a carb thread but was wondering if you guys saw the Holley 300 CFM 2 BBL I made out of an old 600 double pumper i had laying around. Could do the same thing with a vacuum secondary. Needed room for the HEI and didn't need the 600 CFM, Just another way to give you many 2BBL CFM options. ht...

'73 Caddy 500 parts
Not for a boat but need your advice. Going into a GMC motorhome, want to run regular gas. 1973 with soap bars and small chamber heads. Was planning to run original Pistons, good idea? Look great cyl to wall clearance looks fine, one hole had a broken ring but no scoring so must have happened shortly...

Re: 500 caddy cam upgrade
Lock out distributor, didn't even notice when I threw it on the bench. No vacuum advance, pulled cap off and solid shaft, 7 pin module. No centrifugal advance. Perfect for a locked in dd caddy. Now have to look for a distributor or module to time this one. Efi distributor I imagine.

Re: 500 caddy cam upgrade
Thanks for the links, couple I haven't seen. Picked up the 72 because it had a trany, stub axle and bracket and horse shoe mount. Makes it simple! Pretty much relocate front mount hole in crossmember. Yeah I'll ring and bearing it, springs, sitting on a stand now. Carb will have a remote air filter ...

Re: 500 caddy cam upgrade
Hey Deano, not an airboat question but I know where to find caddy pros. :D Just picked up a 72 500 for my new 77 gmc motorhome. Stock 3.07 ratio for the time being. Pretty much stock. The stock 72 cam sounds pretty close to the mts 5 cam if I advance it 4 degrees. Don't want to go crazy at this poin...

Re: Already time for a 496 rebuild
You mentioned going cheap on the initial build, there wasn't anything wrong with that package.
That's all. You messed up IMO.
Water under the bridge, quit bringing it up and I'll quit responding.

I'll still get my AC's done. Yeah im just saying I wish I had your budget! O470 together but with the retirement property, building wood chipper and brush cutter, bought a 77 GMC motorhome that I have to get useable by summer (I completely gutted it) and im buying my first caddy, 72 Eldorado 5...

Re: Already time for a 496 rebuild
I recollect I charged him $6900 for a 3 blade Superwide with Powershift hub I bought off dan the man, think I paid $1500. Crated them and shipped to sensenitch to check, I think they charged him $100 for their services. Box I got off a guy called himself gatorgetter, don't know history of box. Ran f...

Re: Already time for a 496 rebuild
Sorry to hear of your loss.. Lets see, you went cheap? you got a great deal, don't know what the ignition timing was at after your truck driver hauled the engine around the deck of his goose neck by the distributor ( you did say the cap was broken right? And my buddy witnessed it). YOU DIDN'T CHECK ...

Hey, I'm doing a FI Vortec, but it's not a boat. It's a woodchipper. And it's not dd, it's getting a TH400 behind it for reduction running in reverse. Just thought I would share. Just need about 50-60 hp at 2200 rpm.

Re: Back to my Continentals!
Just an update.. Airboat pretty much on the back burner. Bought an acreage on Vancouver Island overlooking the straight and Washington State. Beautiful views, 700' from the ocean, sick of 5' of snow and 40 below so shitloads of work to do. Bought a Woodmaxxx wood chipper, PTO design but I have to bu...

Re: magneto versus electronic
If you wanted electronic ignition with a backup reliability source you could run electronic on one set of plugs and an impulse mag on the other set. But other than a battery dying and possibility of harder hand propping I would stack up the Ford EDIS system against a mag for reliability any day, no ...

Re: Still waiting for first "official" cold front
We had 3 days rain then it dipped down to -5 f. Then it snowed. Glad i put on studded tires this winter. Normally 25 minutes to work, 80 minutes with the idiots coming home. Had 14" snow in last 2 weeks, expecting another foot tomorrow. Bought a acreage on Vancouver island yesterday. Trip out, ...
