Re: IO-720 Lycoming Fuel Injection Alternatives

There is someone who works with Darin at Pacemaker ignitions who has been building electronic fuel injection systems for several 6 cylinder aircraft engines (both Lycoming and Continental) The people I have spoken to seem to be very satisfied with them. They have said they are very dependable and fu...

Hopefully you have a bad gauge and the new gauge fixes that problem. Good to hear that they caught the heart problem before it got any worse and I hope you have a complete recovery

Re: S/c 480 methanol injection worth it?

Was a poster that used to be on here all the time who went by Farmboy that has a great running SC480 that was going to be putting on a water/methanol injection system on his but not sure if he got it going or not. Might try to contact him and see what input he might have. He's a nice guy and will he...

Re: Advice on building rigging for new boat

Think Swamphunter has some great advice. Plans can change from concept to finish build. Think the best route would be to gather all major components so no double work is done. One thing to consider is that maybe a great deal come along on a gearbox or prop that is just too good to pass up, it might ...

Re: Help setting up trailer

Just looking at the pic that you posted it looks as if just a dovetail at the rear would be enough to dry load. If you wanted to put a roller at the point where the dovetail attached to the trailer it would help as the hull went up onto the trailer but not sure if that is really necessary. JMO

Do a search for Pacemaker Performance and contact them they do a system for 6 cylinder aircraft engines that seem to work very well, I'm sure they could do a 4 cylinder system also. Not sure of the cost.

Diggin you are to be commended on how you are handling this it seems nowadays too many are all to willing to jump to conclusions and start raving about something they don't have all the info on. Look forward to hearing what they find to be the cause if it is something that can be pinned down

Re: supercharger

I would image quite a lot would have to be changed on that engine to bolt on a supercharger and have it live. First the pistons would have to be changed out for something lower in compression then probably a cam change and maybe some head work in order to make it all work. It isn't just a bolt and go.

Swamp been watching this build with much interest, Looks like there are some very nice pieces going into the make-up of the parts list. Just wondering why new more modern forged H beam rods weren't used. Is it the availability or are the Caddy pieces just that tough? Just wondering not second guessi...

Re: Need Help 2A Now

Diggin, do you have any idea why the plate failed? Do you think it was just fatigue or some other factor? It might be the camera angle but it looks like the end of the through bolt is very near the flywheel, is there a possibility that the end of the starter bendix contacted it when it engaged the s...

Re: Lifting Engine 2.5-3 inches

Skinnypockets was right on, many props can be cut down a small amount and there are different hub lengths that can be changed to shorten or lengthen a prop. At 68 inches it might already be in a short hub but its worth a look to see if it is if a deal comes along.

Re: CM Setup

Diggin, there seems to be a consensus that you have too much weight and that it will be hard to get the performance you want without some major changes such as a new gear ratio. Have you given any thought to a new hull to switch your rigging over to? You have at least one gearbox that won't fit your...

Re: Lycoming IO580 ....

Looks like the IO580 wasn't introduced until around 1997 so probably a little to pricey to put on an airboat and since it only produces about 15 more hp than a standard injected angle valve 540 probably wouldn't be cost effective. JMO :old_glory:

Re: Shutdown proceedure for IO520

If the lean out is adjusted properly to cut off the fuel then pulling the cable for the lean out should cut off the fuel and the engine should shut down on its own and then you shut off the mag switches. That is how mine works anyway. Sounds like the cable for the lean out might not be shutting fuel...

Swamphunter is there any reason that you did not just go with an MSD ignition control box on this build. I have enjoyed the updates that you have been posting but just wondered if it was just a preference to stay with the older system or maybe the cost with going to a more expensive but seemingly mo...

Re: 1st Air boat - Build ideas - Thoughts?

Don't mean to rain on your parade but just don't think the budget you have allotted is going to be able to get the desired result. Nice aluminum hull alone will probably run you around 1800 to 2000 or more depending on how good it is and wether it has poly or not. Motor mods might not be too bad if ...
