Re: 10 blade warp drive on o540

I personally switched from a 5 blade 70” warp to a 72” whisper tip on a SV 540. If there was any major change it was bottom end push. Have 2 friends with14 foot ride boats with sv 0540 on both. They use 5 blade excaliber blades and will carry up to 7 passengers and themselves. Is this enough push? ...

stock can be 235-260 horsepower - would be nice if he could put some 10:1 pistons in there for you!

Re: Installing a prop on a 05 40 aircraft engine

Bob is correct on 74" being max, unless it was an angle valve 540.

A 72” whisper tip on a SV 540 is a great choice, but a Q or Sig will work too! :salute:

Hey Rick!
In your other post you mentioned the straight valve 540 had "H" pistons. Do you know what compression ratio that makes and are there any other mods to the motor?

Rick this post has good info from Chuck! https://southernairboat.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=32748 A big concern is which way the exit tips will be pointed. A good friend has a high dollar header set on his 520 that dumped straight back into the prop. He said the exhaust noise bounced back off t...

Re: Tsi0540

714714xmas welcome to SA! Some of the other engine guys can chime in but here is my take. Most of the turbo engines are low compression 7.30:1, so if you remove the turbos and add a carb setup, this will equate to about 235-245 hp. If you added 10.0:1 pistons with the carb setup you could make about...

Looks like one of the middle cylinders has been worked or replaced.
If the cylinder was replaced, there is a break in period and typically lycomings run Aeroshell 100 Mineral oil until the rings set.

Re: 305 dd on 12ft Apache hull

I ran a 72" 3 blade H on my 472 DD caddy. that ol 472 was putting out 350 hp while that 305 is 150 hp on a good day! Like the other guys stated, you are over propped for the setup and under powered with the 305. Try a 2 blade hub with the h's for starters and look for a 70" used Q or Sig blades. :s...
