Re: New engine cooling issue

It takes a bit of work to fix the lean condition just before the secondaries open. Take opening the secondary transfer slot then adjust the idle circuit in the primary to offset it. Can also use the old school 1 stand of copper wire in the primary IFR. You can also play with the air bleeds but that ...

Re: Cadillac 500 cam help

Deano the Cloyes timing setup is a possible problem as the direction are slightly screwed up. I know I set mine up incorrectly the 1st time and it ran fine but had know power. Them I spoke with Bondsman and he told me about his post about the setup issue. Bondsman did a post about the correct setup....

Re: Cadillac 500 cam help

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge and does it have the correct fuel pressure on the top end? Also if you used a cloyes timing set the direction are misleading. Have verified the the timing setup is correct and there are several different cadillac timing pointers have you verified TDC? If pointer is ...

Re: cadd500 broken rocker shafts?

A .625 lift cam would require the proper valvetrain geometry and specific springs and setup to not coil bind, not just adding a shaft rocker. You did not say but maybe that was done. That is a lot of stress running a cam like that at close to WOT for a long periods. BTW glad my caddy days (run a DD ...

Re: Apparently it's coming to this!!!!

You can run a 3 blade prop more efficiently 78" 3 blade R 5,000 or an 80" 4850 is just about the perfect tip speed. You could use 2.09 turn a 3 blade R 76"4750 or 78 at 4,600 I ran a 48.5" 3 blade R on a stock 5.3 with a 2.68 turning the motor 5,000 set on pitch mark 2. I would s...

Re: My new build for the Ford 408

Nice looking ride. You will find the gearbox to be a wonderful thing. Yep been there on the DD thing. Ran a Caddy for 10years. Got a 2:1 precision for next to nothing got it set-up of my caddy. Then built a boat for a buddy with a 5.3 out of a truck. He wanted a lighter motor and found his a l33 5.3...

Re: Looks Like I'ma gonna be a Caddy Guy - Now What?

Sliding I kind of agree but disagree to me each blade has a tip speed it likes for best all-round performance. 76 vs an 80" prop at the same engine rpm have a very different tip speed. Keeping the engine RPM about the same to get best power out of the engine and using the gearbox ratio to dial ...

Re: Looks Like I'ma gonna be a Caddy Guy - Now What?

I have run a 268 and 2.55 on a 400-425hp iron 6.0 it is on a 14x7-6 alumitec SS rigging setup for fishing the gulf. Currently with the 2.55 I cruise at 3000, 3200 loaded for fishing in deep water. I wouldn't hesitate to 2.55 or 2.68 with the right size prop. Less gear is more stress than spinning th...
