DOM prices

Realizing prices could vary by local, can anyone tell me what's the average prices on DOM these days?

Per full length or per foot...

3/4" x .065
1/2 x .065

Apple Machine (Ft Pierce) is where I've bought it in the past, but it's been a minute.

Define DOM?

Time for some basic math. Consider 3/4" 0.065 wall versus 3/4" schedule 40 EMT. The 3/4" DOM whatever is 4% (1398/1344 = 1.04) heavier than the 3/4" EMT. Assuming cheap steel for both, EMT wins hands down on strength and weight.

DOM only makes sense if looking at Alloy Steel and thin wall. If you want to save weight, go aluminum.

3/4" x 0.065 wall tubing
OD = 0.75
Wall = 0.065"
ID = 0.62
Area = 0.1398 in^2

3/4" EMT
OD = 0.922"
Wall = 0.049"
ID = 0.824
Area = 0.1344 in^2

The lighter and stronger of the two is the EMT.

What's your opinion on mig welding or brazing emt?

Years ago I built my 2nd airboat with emt... engine stand and all. I brazed everything with brass rod. It was light weight, and I never had an issue with it.

Years later, I built a grass rake on another boat I built... I mig welded it, and I didn't have any problems with that either.

Of course, both scenarios, every joint was cut and trimmed to fit perfectly... no gap filling.

Your thoughts?
