    Fuel injection

90% of the issues with the self learning stuff is operator error or incorrect installation. I have extensive experience with Fitech units, currently run one on my 408 Windsor. They are not as simple as the companies lead you to believe, you have to have some basic knowledge to be successful...

    Inconsistent rpms

This will let you know if the coil is firing. I doubt the MSD box is the issue unless there is some corrosion between the coil harness and the MSD harness. Could have a coil breaking down under high rpms. Should be able to find ohm specs for the coils and test with a multimeter.

What size carb for a Ls

The box is designed to work with multiple engine combos. To keep prices low they make them run several different setups. Those timing tables I assume are based on dyno tuning at MSD with what can be considered safe for standard engines. What you see are set curves. A custom tune is up to the...

What size carb for a Ls

No offense to anyone one but if you having a hard time understanding this carb/MSD setup then fuel injection is not for you, it doesn't get much simpler. Just sayin! I'd just assume running injection but the boat came with a carb so that's what we're using. OEMs didn't ditch the carb just for...

What size carb for a Ls

It's the standard MSD LS Series box. It's designed to only drive the coils. The carb has to be properly tuned, the box is your distributor. The timing tables are the same as mechanical weights just infinitely more adjustable when using 1 of the 4 custom tables. Like I said it does monitor temp...

What size carb for a Ls

With a carb you don't need a MAP sensor. Carbs are dumb. Vacuum draws fuel. MAP sensors are for fuel injection. MSD box only drives the coils by interpreting the cam position and crank position with the exception of the temp sensor which tells the box when the engine is warm enough to give it...

What size carb for a Ls

Here's the 2 timing tables for MSD. Couldn't figure out how to pm them so had to put them in the post. 14.5 psi is atmospheric pressure so the timing is gonna fall between 11.6 and 15.2 psi.

What size carb for a Ls

What intake is on it? Single planes can get away with a smaller carb. The 650 will probably be snappier down low. Manifold velocity is key. A larger carb will make more HP up high, as long as it's not too big. When we dyno any engine we pay a lot of attention too the vacuum readings. It tells us...

What size carb for a Ls

    Lol what a waste

What size carb for a Ls

Was it fat or lean? We find that on the dyno tuning a tad lean they tend to fatten up with full exhaust.

What size carb for a Ls

The 6.0 LS2 I just finished building has a 750 Holley on it. Made peak power 511 hp at 6300. 2.68 gearbox and an 80" 3 blade R. Made more with an 850 (527 hp @ 6300) but didn't want it to suffer down low. Didn't try a 650. We also tuned for correct AFRs. Single plane GM intake manifold. MSD...

Southwest Florida is an awful big place. It would help to be a little more specific on your location. Just sayin

    Blower on 350

Parasitic loss at the crank might offset any gains you might see. Top fuel engines with screw superchargers require somewhere in the neighborhood of 900 hp just to drive the blower. I have always wondered if this would benefit. HP is directly related to RPM. The more RPM the more HP. HP =...

    new engine

WOW I have to admit that I knew nothing about the 4.3 V8 and had to look it up. Thought you were pulling my leg, was like a 4.3 cam is 4 lobes short lol. It sure would be interesting to see what kinda of numbers could be pulled out of a combination like that. If you could find all the components...

    new engine

Small intake ports, dual plane intake, short duration high lift cam, 500 CFM 2 barrel or 450 CFM 4 barrel. Trick to a stump pulling direct drive is manifold velocity. 400 small block with a 4 inch crank would work well. Even a 3.85 stroke would help. My 408 Windsor did amazing as a DD until the...

    Flexplate to driveplate clearance Rotator

Nevermind I figured it out. The soft drive bushings are able to move within the drive plate which I had not previously realized.

    Flexplate to driveplate clearance Rotator

Went to bolt up the gearbox to the LS2 today and the flexplate seems awfully tight against the driveplate bushings. Can't rotate the gear drive when it's tight to the block. I installed a PRW Platinum flexplate that is .156 thick, should be the same spec as OEM as far as depth. Since it's not a...
