The laser mold has been passed around for years now there seems to be 3 levels of quality 1) The actual original laser solid built good hull (has a pvc pipe molded into the the top of the sides for support) 2) Several hand laid good thick tough hulls made of about the same quality maybe a touch less as the original. 3) Crappy sprayed hulls not very tough and wear out fast.
But, they all ride good and handle very well in tight trails very 'predictable' as some people would put it.
You can really tell the diff in quality from one to the other.

I'm going to be in the market for 2 new hulls as I'm tired of leaks/fiberglass work, etc.
1- A 12 foot fiberglass that will have a Lycoming 180. Boat currently runs great dry, but could handle better and has a very short transom so it will take on water really easy. My 13 year old has also started driving this boat and it will be his boat over time so I'd like something that runs good, but is also safe/tough and will last. I'm hearing the 12 foot Rivermaster is 'back', but I haven't seen one. I had been hearing really bad stuff about the 'new' Rivermasters. I also hear debates regarding which Laser (Ocala guy vs. Gilleo). Haven't really heard about Jimmy White having anything 12 foot in a ride boat. Thoughts?
2- 13'6" hull for an AV 0540. Currently on a real old Cottonmouth with polymer, stainless rigging, stainless grass rake (i.e. heavy boat). It's a barge and after driving the 4 cylinder it's almost no fun, but when I've got 3 or 4 people it's a necessity. I hear they may have the 'old' Freedomcraft coming back. Also considering the same things outlined in #1 above regarding the different Laser hulls. I do hear good things about Jimmy White, but mostly from the guys that want to go fast. I haven't heard about how well they run dry or last. I'd probably start with slick bottom, but almost everyone I ride with has gone to polymer due to the past really dry times. I also want this hull to last 'forever' as I have no plan to sell, etc. It is also a ride boat that will need to run dry with people. Thoughts?
Thanks

If you want both boats "to last forever" you might consider aluminum - new or used, no fiberglass hull stands up to the ground like aluminum and poly does.

James has STARS... ...Good job buddy... My brother and I both have a laser hull, both boats ride and handle nice and the looks are pretty familiar but the strength between the two is not even close. He has a Gillieo and i have a "Tater Chip" with a slick bottom applied to it...

Thanks all for the feedback on Lasers. It appears Gillieo has some supporters. I will stick with fiberglass although I realize nothing lasts forever... Do note that this last comment is not meant to draw out any political commentary.
